I recently set up the fax feature on a Canon MP530 printer. When I try to send a fax, the receiving number does not answer. I get a print out that says the number is busy or does not answer. I know the receiving fax machine works, because I was told that it receives other faxes.
From what I can tell, I set everything up right on my MP530, such as the phone line, and the settings. I don't understand why the receiving number won't receive my fax. I tried the plain number, and also tried "1" in front of the number. Neither work.
What am I missing? Suggestions...

Hello wldwmn64,
So we can better assist you, please reply with the following information:
1. If you hook a telephone up to the TEL port on the back of the printer, are you able to hear a dial tone when you lift the receiver?
2. Do you have a dedicated fax line, or is your fax line shared with your phone line?
3. Do you have DSL or CABLE providing your phone service, or is it through a land line provided by the phone company?
4. Do you have an answering machine connected to the unit?
5. Do you have the line coming from your phone line source plugged into the "L" on the back of the unit?
If this is a time-sensitive matter, additional support options are available at Contact Us.

There is no phone hooked up to the printer.
2. Do you have a dedicated fax line, or is your fax line shared with your phone line?
It is shared from a phone line, BUT I have a phone modem that has separate lines going from the modem to the phone and to the printer.
3. Do you have DSL or CABLE providing your phone service, or is it through a land line provided by the phone company?
Land line from phone company.
4. Do you have an answering machine connected to the unit?
No.
5. Do you have the line coming from your phone line source plugged into the "L" on the back of the unit?
It is plugged into the L. Per above, I have a line from the L to the phone modem. And another line going from the modem to the phone.

Hi wldwmn64,
Thanks for the additional.
Try connecting a standard handset to the port in the back of your printer (symbol should appear like a phone). If you lift the handset and hear a dial tone, then that is a good indication that the line is active.
I strongly recommend contacting us for additional troubleshooting. We can help you by performing a test fax and walking you through the setup to ensure that your fax is configured properly.
