My Canon MX882 just flashed the U052 message about the incorrect printhead. The printer, scanner etc are out of order. Is there any way out of this?

Sorry -- This is a known defect by Canon and your printer is most likely headed for the trash heap. Please refer to the subject “Call to Arms for the dreaded U052 Wrong Printhead Error” that’s also listed under Personal Printers in the Canon Forum. The fact that there are over 11,000 views gives you some sense of the magnitude of the issue.

what about ordering a new printer head will that work?

In response to the question raised by drazdik about just buying a new printhead, a new printhead costs about the same as a new printer. Furthermore, many folks have indicated a new printhead did not resolve the issue. Below is the verbatim response I received from Canon Support (ticket #1583267). Your decision should be an easy one – buy a new printer you’d be happy with from a company that will stand behind their products.
Please note that we are unable to provide you with instructions on how to conduct repairs, and you assume the responsibility of replacing parts. Replacing the part may or may not resolve the issue you are experiencing, and the parts are not returnable.
