IJust bought a new printer can print easily via airprint via the mac printing app. On my previous Canon MX925 I was able to scan from here as well. Not so on the G7050. So i downloaded the scan utility application, however, when i open the IJ Scan Utility Lite application i get the error box showing that it cannot communicate with the scanner.
My OS is macOS Catalina v10.15.7
Completley lost as what to try next?

I have exactly the same problem; also had a Pixma MX925 and now a G7050.
Any news from the community...or were you able to get support from Canon?

My scanner now works fine...I restarted my Mac and then reconfigured the new printer on the Mac, restarted the Mac once more and then it worked fine. However, for some reason I have had the odd occassion when the scanner is not recognised, so another restart of the Mac seems to cure the problem.
I hope this helps.
