Hello.
If the printer is being used via USB, make sure that the USB cable is connected directly to your computer rather than through any USB hubs or extension devices.
If used via Wi-Fi, make sure that the IJ Network Scan Utility is running. This can be found in the Canon Utilities listing of the Start Menu.
