Canon MP280

I have owned this printer for some time now. But I can't really afford a new one just yet.

When I press the power button the green light on the power button comes on. And the ink seems to move from left to right. I hear the rollers for a few seconds and the ink goes back to the left again and it seems the printer shuts off. Can't press the power button again and my computer says the printer is offline.

I have tried a different outlet. And even a different USB slot on my computer. But the same eveytime. I even unhooked from my PC and the same happens. It seems weird to me that it turns on and seems to be working but then just shuts off at the same time every try. Can anyone help me please?

Hi rickitycricket,

I recommend performing a reset of the printer. While the printer is on, unplug the power cord from the printer and let it sit for 60 seconds. While the power is off, press the power button 5 times. After 60 seconds plug the power cord back in and power on the printer.

If the same issue happens after the reset, the printer will need to be replaced.

So how does pressing the power button 5 times whiles its not powered up do anything? The printer has no way to register what I'm doing with no power.

Hi rickitycricket,

By pressing the power button 5 times, that removes any remaining electrical charge in the printer. If the reset does not resolve the issue, you can contact our sales team when you are ready to purchase another printer.

I'm sorry, but thats not good enough of an answer for me. There is no way you can tell me to buy a new printer when it turns on. There is some issue that is causing it to shut off. I just want to fix the printer i have, not purchase a new one. I apologize if this seems rude, i'm not trying to come off as such. In my line of business if I tell someone that I need to buy a new product of mine that is broken right away then I lose that customer. There has to be something else I can try to fix this problem.
