Canon MG2920/2922 Won't Scan; Codes 5, 156, 69

My problems began day before yesterday possibly when we had a freak and nearly instant power failure.  The power blipped out for just a few seconds, but long enough to turn off the computer and the Canon MG2920 printer that we have.  The power failure may or may not have anything to do with the issues that I am now having.

Later that evening, I powered both the computer and the printer back up to use them.  The printer still printed fine, however I could not get it to scan anything.  I normally scan our children's school assignments by using the Paint program that comes with Windows XP, but each time I attempted to scan, it did nothing.

Thinking that the scanner must have gone bad, I purchased another Canon printer yesterday, the PIXMA MG2922 model.  I brought it home and installed it.  Before installing it, I removed all the software from the previous Canon.  To my surprise, this new Canon is doing the same thing.

I have removed and reloaded the driver software several times, all to no avail.  It just won't work.  Prints fine, but doesn't scan.  If I use the Scan Utility program, it gives me the error codes 5, 156, and 69.

My computer is an older Compaq Presario with Windows XP.  I have recently cleaned the hard drive and completed a fresh new software install.  I use AVG for an antivirus program.

Can you help me figure out what is going on with these scanners?

Hello.

Try performing a copy to see if the unit can operate standalone.  If the unit can copy, uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers may help.
