Can't connect Canon PRINT app to Android, Failed to configure the printer's Wi-Fi settings error

Cannot connect the printer app to my phone. After "Cannon PRINT app wants to use a temporary Wi-Fi network to connect to your device Canon_ij_78783_ts4300series", I select "Connect" and after saying "Processing" for a few minutes I get "Failed to connect to the printer."

On one attempt I also got "Failed to configure the printer's Wi-Fi settings. If an error is displayed on the printer [it was not] clear the error" followed by instructions to finish setting up the printer, even though I had already done so.

Android version 16, app is current.

I'm able to print from my laptop so it's not completely useless, but it's very inconvenient not to be able to use my phone.

I have no issues with any other Wi-Fi connected devices.

The TS4300 is a series, not an actual printer model. If you give us the actual model, we may be able to provide more specific information.

Models in this series can support wireless direct, and standard wireless.  Wireless direct does not require a router and allows your mobile device to connect directly to the printer.  Standard wireless requires an external wireless network that you'll connect the printer and mobile device to. 

The printer has to be configured depending on the desired connection method.
