Can't change scan settings for new printer TR8620a

The manual says to change settings, one must go to Dialog Box and even shows pictures.  But none of the options mentioned ever show up.  It is just Scan, Copy, Fax & Print, and when hitting "Scan," the only appropriate option is "save to PC.'  In hitting that  it shows "Doc type auto scan."  and then a blank field underneath.

I can also click on "placing originals" which does not help, Black or Color, and Local USB.  There is also a home icon and back icon.  Nothing ever pops up anything like the options shown in the manual. I do not have a smart phone, so cannot control anything that way, and when I bought the printer they said the smart phone is  a convience, but not necessary.

HOW DO I SELECT (preferably each time I scan) WHAT FOLDER TO WHICH I WANT TO SCAN AND THE NAME OF THE SCANNED DOCUMENT?

No need to SHOUT. It violates forum rules.

Did you actually try to scan?

When you scan the document is placed in the "Documents" folder and the file opens in your PDF reader. If the scan is OK you can keep it there or move to a folder of your choice.

It does not open in my PDF reader.  Itis saved in Documents folder as  img yyyymmdd_NN where NN is the number of how many documents were scanned.  Sure I can read that with my PDF reader, but then I have to save that where I want it and delete it from Documents.  In my old Canon Pixma which this new TR8620 is replacing, after scanning, a window would open up where I can type in  (or browse to find) what folder in which to place the scanned documents and type the name I want.  The manual advertises that I can set it up by changing scan settings.  But I can't do that.  If the manual says it can be done, please tell me how to do it!  No option that the manual says will pop up does show.   And your way requires multiple steps.  It will be saved somewhere I do not want and I then have to copy and rename it to put it somewhere else.  I want this all to pop up automatically by using scan settings as advertised by the manual.  How can I do that?

I have found Canon to offer very little, if any, information about scanning when the driver package is initially installed for the TR8620A. I faced a similar situation where my printer would print, and would scan if the scan command was sent from my PC. But I was completely unable to get it to scan from the control pnel on the printer. The printer was not recognizing my computer as a target for the scan to be delivered to. Note that the informatioin below is my experience on my home wireless network that has 2 laptops and 2 printers, all connected wireless to a wireless router (which is connected to the internet via cable).
Here's what I discovered after much digging......
.
When I installed the single executable file to install the drivers, it also installed a folder named "Canon Utilities" which is listed in my list of apps on the start menu. Inside this folder, there are several files of which two are critical to perform scanning: "IJ Network Scanner Selector EX2" and "IJ Scan Utility". To enable scanning from the control panel of the printer, the "IJ Network Scanner Selector EX2" must be activated (simply click it to run) and the appropriate settings must be made inside the selector to choose what printer you wish to use when scanning. These settings are all done at your computer.. Full details are on pages 353-356 in the online manual..

Once the appropriate settings are made, the "IJ Scan Utility" is the control interface (on the computer) to perform scanning and to set various scanner setings. Open the IJ Scan Utility (it's a very small window) and click the SETTINGS button at the bottom right side. This will bring up the larger settings window where you can pre-set file names, directory locations where the scans will be deposited, date formats, image quality etc. A group of settings that you select can be stored for each type of scan being performed (i.e. document, photo, OCR etc.). It is fairly self explanatory once you see it, and there is detailed info in the user manual. But it appears that all these settings (pre-sets) must be performed at the computer before you scan. Once the presets are in place, any scanning you do from the printer control panel will be dictated by the settings you have pre-assigned. I see no way to be able to manipulate these settings from the control panel on the printer itself.

Key points:
1. IJ Network Scanner Selector EX2 must be running with correct settings
On the Scanner Selector window, there is a button for "Instructions". This button will immediately bring up Canon's online instructions which are the same as pages 353-356 mentioned above.
2, IJ Scan Utility is the interface to perform scanning settings (or to scan from the computer). There are probably other scanning software, but this is what came with the driver package.
3. Most all scanner settings are pre-set at the computer. Once preset, you don't need to mess with them again unless you want to change them. Many details are explained in the user manual, pages 353-356.

If this reply is too lengthy for your forum, I apologize. This is my first time ever joining a forum community and first time posting. Hopefully I'll be learning the rules as I proceed..
