Hi everyone,
I’m having a strange issue with my Canon TS6351a printer and could use some help.
When I run a test print after a deep clean, everything looks perfect — all five color lines (including black) print correctly. However, when I try to print anything that uses black ink, it won’t print black at all?
Additional details:
There is plenty of ink left, recognized by printer, computer, and Android.
I’ve already tried two different original print heads.
The printer recognizes the ink cartridges with no errors.
The printer and computer diagnostics show no issues.
I’ve installed the latest drivers.
I’ve done multiple deep clean cycles.
I also performed a full printer reset.
Has anyone experienced this problem or knows what else I can try? I use normal paper...
Thanks in advance!

It is obviously not an empty black cartridge problem, so it must be a driver or settings issue:
Your software settings could be the hidden cause behind missing black ink. It’s worth reviewing them before assuming there’s a hardware problem.
Suggested fixes:
In your printer preferences, check if “Grayscale” or “Color Only” is selected.
Choose “Black and White” or “Monochrome” to prioritize black ink.
Update your Canon printer driver to the latest version available on Canon’s website.
Many users ask why Canon printer not printing black and are surprised to find the fix is as simple as changing a default print setting.
Canon printers adjust ink flow based on the selected paper type. If the wrong paper setting is chosen, it can affect how black ink is applied.
Try this:
Open print preferences and select the correct paper type, like “Plain Paper.”
Avoid selecting specialty papers like glossy or photo paper unless you’re using them, as these settings can limit black ink output.

Thanks for the reply. I have already tried all the suggested steps. I updated the manual and installed the latest drivers directly from the official Canon website. I also checked the “print in grayscale” option but it didn’t make any difference. My settings are set to standard and the paper type is also selected as standard. Unfortunately the issue still persists.

Are they Canon ink cartridges? I have read here that sometimes a non Canon ink cartridge will print a Windows test page, but not from any Canon program.

Yes, they are both genuine Canon ink cartridges.
