I have a PIXMA MP 470 printer that will run tests from itself for ink supplies and performance, but once I try to print from my Mac OS X El Capitan, the computer asks me to find a driver. No luck contacting canon after following their prompts to find out it is soley handled online, before their system hung up on me. Apple suggested an upgrade of the OS but my mac is too old.
I would be interested in finding out about third party driver support if anyone can share a link.

Hi, donman9! The PIXMA MP470 is an older model and support for more modern versions of macOS aren't available. Drivers and software for macOS up through v10.9 are available HERE.
Hope this helps!
