Hi queenakeredolu,

There are several reasons a 5100 error may occur. To try and resolve the error, please follow the recommendations for each of the items listed below:

1.  An ink tank(s) is not seated properly -- Please remove and reseat all of the ink cartridges in the printer.

2.  Paper is jammed or there is an object inside the printer -- With a flashlight or other bright light, please check the paper feed area of the printer and verify that there are no paper jams or obstructions in the printer that may be causing the error.   Once this has been done, please look inside of the printer where the inks are located and ensure that there are no obstructions in there that may be causing the print head not to move freely.

3.  The encoder film/strip may need to be cleaned -- Please  for instrtuctions on cleaning the encoder film.

4.  The printer needs to be reset -- Please turn off the printer, unplug the power cord from the back and leave it out for at least 10 minutes, then plug it back in and turn it back on.

Should you continue to experience the error after following the above recommendations, the printer will require servicing.

Please call or email us at one of the methods on the Contact Us page to obtain your servicing options.
