Why does EOS VR Utility now show only a lens mask instead of an image mask after the update?

I'm a VR180 video content creator. I shoot with a Canon EOS R5C and a Dual Fisheye lens, and use EOS VR Utility for post-processing. After updating EOS VR Utility, I noticed that the software no longer provides a mask around the frame, but only a lens mask. While this does give me a wider field of view, it also makes pre-production more difficult, as the mask around the frame effectively hides my tripod. I hope Canon will reinstate this feature in the next update, or add an option for users to choose whether to add a mask around the frame. Canon's VR strategy is very forward-thinking, which is why I chose Canon for my VR180 videos. I paid for the EOS VR Utility software, and I don't want useful features to be removed or replaced.

Greetings,

Unfortunately I don't have a VR lens, so I don't use the utility.  Is it possible the setting is not visible because of another correction or import type setting?

Are you using a horizontal center column on your tripod?  This effectively removes the possibility of the lens capturing the legs of the tripod.  This is something you want?  Trying to understand 🤔

If you use the column, wouldn't you be able to turn the lens mask feature off?

What happens if you turn off parallax correction?

I know there was some concerns around cropping.  Not only was the frame size reduced but it also increased processing time.

Just trying to help.  Hopefully others who are using the utility can chime in 🙂

Thanks for your reply. In fact, as you said, I can use special effects to eliminate the tripod in post-production, and I can even make a mask myself in the VR180 video. However, in the post-processing process of VR180 video, any plug-in or special effect processing will reduce the image quality of VR180 video, which will destroy the immersion of VR180 video.

Before the EOS VR Utility update, these operations had very little impact on image quality, but now, creators have to make a choice in the middle.

Either they give up the mask but this also destroys the immersion, or they make the mask themselves but this will reduce the quality of VR180 video and also destroy the immersion.

Canon needs to add this function back, or leave the option of whether to add a panoramic mask to the creators, instead of deleting it on its own.
