I noticed that the USBC connection option isn’t showing when registering the R3 with the Canon Camera Connect app on iPhone…. Is this an app error?

The Canon Connect App only runs on smart devices with wireless connectivity. It is by design.

thanks for the reply, but i see that every other R series camera with a multi-function shoe gives a USB connection option in the app, which is why I think this was an oversight by Canon, and not a capability issue

this is what I see with my iPhone 16 pro
I am able to connect via usbc and import photos to the photo library, but I’d like a hardline connection for auto-transfer and live view shooting video purposes. im able to get live view via usbc with 3rd party apps, but missing touch to focus while recording video. The canon app can do this via WiFi connection, but it’s really unreliable and actually worked better with the iPhone 15

Do you have the camera connected with a USB cable between the camera and the iPhone? If so did you change the setting in the camera to choose the USB connection app? If you want to use Camera Connect on the phone and use a USB connection you need to select the second option, Canon app(s) for iPhone. Also please make sure to use a USB cabe that supports data transfer, not just charging.

the app does not give a USB option for R3, R6, and R5 regardless of what the usbc setting is in camera...
That's the whole point of my post.

The setup is not needed, and the USB connection is not shown until it is connected. Make the setting change in the camera as above, then connect the camera to the phone and start camera connect app. You will see that the tiles are all active and you can download images or remote control the camera.
I had a thought... can you establish a connection to the camera using Bluetooth, and maybe even setup the WiFi connection. Once this is done the camera is shown as one of your registered cameras. Then you should be able to use the USB connection after that first initial wireless setup.
Here's my iPhone, with an EOS R6 Mk2 that has the same menu setting as your EOS R3. I have previously used the camera connect app with my camera over WiFi.
In the first screen the camera is switched on but the cable is not connected, the bluetooth is active on the camera and it's paired with my phone, you can also see location is active, but not WiFi.
Now I plugged in the USB cable and the display changes to show that the USB connection is connected.
I then selected Images on camera to preview the shots on the card and very quickly did the images show up. Much faster than is possible with WiFi.
