Preview Canon RAW Video in macOS Finder?

Is there a way to view Canon RAW video files in macOS Finder? I want to preview files in a way that doesn’t require importing the files into a video editor.  The Canon Cinema RAW Development software will preview the clips, but it does not allow me to delete video clips.   Canon Digital Photo Professional allows rating and deleting video files, but you cannot play the video clip to preview.

Converting RAW video files to a more widely supported format is time consuming and uses extra space.

I have installed the RAW Plugin for Final Cut Pro.

The Canon RAW Plugin 3.0.0 for Final Cut Pro now provides macOS Finder quicklook capability. Previewing large 8k RAW video files on a fast Mac works well.  Finder quicklook previewing the same RAW video file on a Mac Neo is very slow.

Canon's software engineers would need to create a QuickLook plugin for that.  Recommend providing feedback:

Go to: https://www.usa.canon.com/

Then at the top, or very bottom, click on "[+] Feedback"

Thanks for your suggestion. Looks to me like the feedback tool is more marketing survey/aggregator tool than feedback to Canon engineers.

There won't be any direct line to the engineers. Your feedback should get routed appropriately.

Is there a third-party app that can preview Canon RAW video files without first adding to a project in an editing app?

Have you looked into using a proxy workflow? Capture a lower-resolution MP4 or similar to a secondary card. Then preview those from Finder.

I went ahead and reported your account for the spam you posted above.

"previewing the same RAW video file on a Mac Neo is very slow."

Was this a surprise? The Neo is very entry level.

Hi,

Not a surprise. I just posted the solution from Canon and pointed out performance differences between more powerful and less powerful Macs in case someone was interested. I've read questions about editing with the Neo elsewhere.

The new RAW Plugin 3.0.0 for Final Cut Pro from Canon has greatly improved my workflow as I shoot a lot of 8K RAW video and appreciate the ability to quickly preview and sort/delete directly in macOS finder.
