My Mac os x 10.6.8 will not recognize my Canon Rebel T5 when I plug it in. Please help!

I downloaded eos utility and i plugged in my camera rebel t5 and it is saying it cant recogonize my camera. Ive emailed canon numerous times with no resepnce and i need help! I have the mac os x version 10.6.8
