Canon t2i from mid to late 2000s
I have an old T2i that is still in great shape. I am curious if it is still viable to use today. The original package had a software disc etc which is outdated obviously. Is there a canon app that is used now. Apologies for the naive questions but I have been out of the loop with the iPhone being so handy.

Digital Photo Professional 4 should work. Download and install the latest version. Some new features are not compatible with older raw files.

As Peter said, the latest version of DPP4 will work with RAW files from your T2i.
In addition, if you download EOS Utility 3.13.20 (if you have a Windows computer) from the canon 1D X Mark III support site you can install EOS Utility for your T2i.
But, no Canon software is required to use your camera. You can download the RAW and/or JPEG files from your card and use any photo software.

Here is the link to Canon's support site for the T2i. You can download software, manuals, firmware from that site.

Edited to show link to EOS Utility 3.13.20 for Windows as recommended by jrhoffman75:

It doesn’t have a download for EOS Utility for W10; only an updater for EOSU already installed. The link and instructions I provided has a full download if the OP has W10.

Does that version include EU2? As I recall (I used to have a T2i) EU2 was required for it.

The instructions and specific version I described will install EOSU3 and EOSU2. Any version of EOSU3 later than the one I listed will not install EOSU2.
Due to the changes in macOS I don't believe there is any version of EOSU available for recent macOS versions for the T2i. But Image Capture will work fine.
OP didn't state which OS he has.

It absolutely IS viable as a picture-taking instrument. Why wouldn't it be? I have a T1i along with 50D, 60D, 7D and 6D. They all are used and produce great shots.
It's just a matter of all the extra bells & whistles menu-optionwise. But too much is too much. The T2i ( or my T1i) only ceases to be useful if there is some function you absolutely must have. Relax and enjoy shooting with what you have!

What are you wanting to do?
There are several apps, plus some software programs... each serving different purposes.
There are three apps...
Canon Connect (formerly EOS Utility) can be installed on computers, smartphones or tablets and gives you remote access to the camera controls and means of downloading images. If T2i doesn't have WiFi it would require a wired connection from the mini-USB port to your computer. A cable was provided with the camera for that purpose. If the camera does have WiFi, it will be possible to use with smartphones, tablets and computers. I've used this program to set up the camera, sync the clocks of multiple cameras, do hands-free shooting. I imagine it might be useful for a landscape photographer with a tablet, to view the scene larger and be able to zoom in for closer inspection of focus, etc.
I do not download via WiFi or using the camera-to-computer cable. Those are way too slow. Instead I pull the memory card out of the camera and use a card reader to copy the images to my computer. There is no software necessary to do this. The computer operating system handles it just fine.
Digital Photo Professional Express is a smartphone/tablet app that allows some work be done on RAW files from the camera... converting to usable JPEG, as well as some minor tweaks. I have not used this.
Image.Canon is cloud storage of images via WiFi (if your camera has it). I have not used this.
Software programs...
Digital Photo Professional is the full size version for your computer, which allows you to organize, view images, adjust and convert RAW files into JPEGs, etc.
Picture Style Editor is just what it says... allows access to the camera's Picture Styles to make changes. I have it installed on my computer, but honestly don't recall ever using it.
Personally I use Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. These are backward compatible with all my cameras. Currently these are only available via a subscription, $120 a year for both. A less expensive, all-in-one solution is Adobe Photoshop Elements (currently version 2023). One time license fee of almost $100 (sometimes on sale for $70). If you also shoot videos, Adobe Premiere Elements (2023) can be bought in bundle with PS Elements, for a nice discount on both ($150 total... sometimes on sale for less).
There are numerous other image organizing and editing programs that are fully compatible with the files produced by a T2i. I like the above Adobe programs simply because they have a lot of support... books, plug-ins, online tutorials, etc.
