EOS R5 II firmware fails to transfer from CC app.

Both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connect fine, but as soon as you hit 'Update Firmware' in the app, it fails. I have tried stopping and starting everything; it connects fine, but fails as soon as I hit the button. I have since updated manually, without issue.

I have exactly the same problem with Firmware 1.1.1.

The CFe and SD cards do not have any old firmware files, but despite this, the CC app is unable to install the latest version.

I am very disappointed to software quality of Canon.

Hi David13MS and AnttiR,

I'm sorry to hear the Canon Camera Connect app and your camera are dropping connection the moment you try to start a firmware update through the app. If a firmware update starts overwriting the old firmware and gets stopped in the middle of that process it would cause the camera to no longer function. Due to that if the app finds that something like a connection isn't strong or consistent enough to do the full update it will drop the connection to help protect the camera.

That could be what happened in these cases. There aren't any settings to force the update. You could try keeping the camera and mobile device closer to each other to try and strengthen the connection. A different option would be to connect both the camera and mobile device to your home wifi network and use that to do the update. Dedicated wifi routers have stronger more consistent connections than what the camera's wifi antenna can output, so sometimes it can help with the update. If the connection continues dropping at that point we would recommend using one of the other methods to do the firmware update.

I have WIFI 7 network in home and in summer cottage, photos are moved from R5 Mark II easily, but CC-app based firmaware update as well as traditional FIR-file way do not work...

When you arrow over to "OK" and hit the "SET" button, what happens? You can't tap it - you have to use the physical buttons/D-pad on the camera.

Hello Stephen,

It worked with the mechanical dial and SET-button from the FIR file on the SD card.

But it do not work with the touchscreen or the CC app. Please fix these.

I think the R5 setup screen should at least say: "Please use mechanical switches AND NOT touchscreen".

But thanks for the really fast support 😊

Hi AnttiR,

You cannot use touch to initiate a firmware update as @Stephen pointed out.  You must use the D-Pad or dial to move focus from Cancel to OK.  This is not a bug.  There is nothing to "fix".  It's intended to work this way.

Your images clearly display that your mobile device is not connected to the camera wirelessly, therefore transfer and update will not complete.

Ensure your mobile device is connected to the camera's Wi-Fi network before initiating a firmware update.

Also make sure your SD card does not contain a partial or failed .FIR file.  This will also keep the camera from updating successfully as @Hazel_T pointed out.

If you need further assistance, please start your own topic instead of posting to another user's thread.  This ensures your issue receives the visibility it deserves.
