DPP 4.9.20 on macOS 10.13

Hello,

I can't start DPP 4.9.20 on my Macbook Pro 15 mid2015, macOS 10.13 with latest updates. It gives me the message 'An error ocurred' on display, and 'AEGetDescData of non-desc type 'reco' not a good idea' in system log.

I've tried complete re-install, installation under other admin account, update from 4.8.30 version. Nothing helped.

Can somobody give me an advise, please?

Thank you.

Thank you for the info. But I'm afraid that I'm not ready to re-format and forget about case sensitivity only for DPP. But could you please write a couple of words here if you will do this?

I'll try this on my Mac and will update the thread with the results.  I just might not get to it for a week or so

Stand by.

Well I got around to this sooner than I thought I would, and you won't believe what the results were.

Firstly, let me grumble and complain that I received NO help whatsoever from Canon regarding this issue, nor has anyone else who's posted a request for this issue.  It's been nearly 4 years since I first had this issue and requested assistance from Canon.  They were clueless.  This really is unacceptable considering the fact that this is their software.

Case senstive formatted APFS is the problem.  I reformatted my Mac tonight and just used APFS (without case sensitivity) and sure enough, DPP now finally runs.  After almost 4 years of f*cking around and dual booting into Windows on my Mac, I have finally solved it, no thanks to Canon.

I only recenlty saw a post regarding Photoshop not running on a Mac with a case sensitive file system and it got me thinking that maybe my DPP issue was the same.

Sorry to tell everyone that you're going to have to backup everything, run disk utility and reformat without case sensitivity, reinstall Mac OS and then you'll be able to run DPP.  What a pain in the ass...

Many thanks for this update. It's a really useful information that I hope Google will index and other Canon users will find in case of troubles.

And even maybe DPP coders will read and fix this 🙂

This may or may not be the silver bullet solution he claims.  Case sensitivity is disabled, by default.  The user must enable it.
