Canon EOS Utility now requires a subscription??

I was really thrown today when trying to setup our lab camera at work to shoot with the EOS utility when it required a subscription. This not only set us back on a project, it was embarrassing for me because I convinced our team to invest in Canon for lab photographs. Luckily we had a Sony around and their controller app, Imagining Edge, does not require a subscription! So this will become our go-to lab camera for the time being and we are very unlikely to invest in Canon again.

You sure you weren't looking at EOS WEBCAM Utility, not just plain old EOS Utility?  The latter has never required a subscription.

You're right! How embarrassing, I was using the wrong utility app, and I found another thread of complaints that confused me further. I am on the right track now with the normal EOS Utility.
