I have a 3rd-party studio turntable that wirelessly triggers the shutter on IR-capable Canon cameras for automated shooting, however this obviously does not work with newer bluetooth-based camera bodies without IR receivers. I am an electronics engineer and I am getting prepared to build a small wired adaptor that will receive the Canon IR shutter trigger, and convert it to a wired 2.5mm shutter release signal for my R10. Before doing so, I have 2 questions for the forum:
1) Is anyone aware of anything similar already in existence? My half hour of google searching has yielded nothing.
2) If I were to produce something like this on a small scale, what are the chances others might be interested? The list of Canon cameras without an IR receiver seems to be pretty limited currently, so the use case for making an older IR remote work with a newer camera may be too niche for anyone to really care about this. Again, I'm only doing this because I have legacy tabletop studio gear that only works with IR, not because I want to use a Canon IR remote...though it would definitely allow one to use a remote like the RC-6 with a non-IR camera body (as long as it has a 2.5mm shutter release port).

You might want to check the remote compatibility page, the IR remote is the RC-6 and it only works with EOS R5, EOS R6 and EOS R7 from the current mirrorless camera line-up

In all reality it might be simpler to modify the turntable to provide a contact closure output rather than IR signal. Once you have the contact closure you can use a cable with the Canon N3 type connector or Canon E3 type (2.5mm stereo headphone plug type) connectors. Only EOS R50 so far has no remote port on the camera and can only be triggered by bluetooth with BR-E1.

Hey Brian, thanks for the feedback. Current camera compatibility of the RC-6 remote is inconsequential to this as I'm not relying on anything specific to that remote, nor on any camera even having an IR receiver. I only mentioned the RC-6 because my external IR receiver device can trigger off the RC-6, RC-5, or any other IR remote for that matter (Nikon, Sony, etc). Any Canon camera with a 2.5mm E3 wired shutter release port will be compatible (or with a 3-prong Canon N3 port using an E3-to-N3 adaptor cable).
Yes, in theory, augmenting my turntable to output a wired shutter release signal might have been simpler if I had been willing to risk damaging its circuit board in the process. But I'd prefer not having my camera tethered to the turntable with a cable, and would like to keep it in the best condition possible for warranty and potential resell. That said, for someone with experience programming microcontrollers, putting together an IR interface is rather trivial and I should have it up and running by tomorrow (assuming one final component is delivered on time).
