Unable to register a previously owned EF 2X II extender

I moved this post from the lens area to general discussion area as I think this would be better suited here as I'm new here and new to all this posting answering stuff. So getting back into some photography more now than ever after a long break. Anyways I've purchased a bunch of great shape used Canon equipment and some new stuff too. My big question in that 99% of my used equipment I registered on My Canon Account without any issues even though it's not warrantied anymore. I like to register in case I elect to get service and just keep track of my equipment or in case of theft. So when I went to register the EF 2X II extender I could not because it was previously registered to the prior owner under its serial number. Is there a way to register it in my name under my account since I purchased it from the previous owner. The previous owner is checking into deleting it from his account. I have the extender and obviously the serial number in hand. I'm just wondering if this is possible?

Thanks- Mike

The other used gear that you were able to register, is all of it still serviceable by Canon? Is the teleconverter still serviceable?

Good idea.

There are only two ways I am aware of to accomplish this.  One is to ask the original registrant (seller) to remove the product from his/her MyCanon Acct.  The other would be to contact support.  I'm not sure if they do this sort of thing as you might also need to provide some type of proof that a legitimate transfer or sale occurred confirming the item is not stolen, etc.  I'd be interested in learning what they say.  Items covered by CarePak can be transferring one time to a new owner during the service contract coverage period.  I realize this doesn't apply here.  MyCanon  is a nice repository for keeping records about your gear.  Althought you could use any cloud storage to keep records like this safe.

The EF 2X ii extender as of Feb 1, 2026 is showing in the Canon Repair period Ended product list and that may be the reason you are unable to register the extender. You will need to translate the page from Japanese to English, link below.

Some of the other used gear is serviceable and some not but I was able to register all of it either way.

I’ve contacted original owner he is checking to see if he can delete it from his account. He originally thought he never registered it, but it’s an older model so I’m waiting for a reply from him.

It appears to be available to register even though it's out of support.  😉
