The ET-87 lens hood for my 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM Lens, which has served me well for a dozen years, is increasingly "sticky" - meaning it is difficult to attach or detach. I've inspected it, and the lens, for dirt - but both are whistle clean.
Knowing I should be extremely conservative in applying (less is more), any recommendations for a lubricant?

Hi and welcome to the forum:
Well, there are a couple of potential fixes. I suspect that the surfaces of the collar, where they connect to the lens front, have probably become abraded with the taking on and off, so using a cloth with some tooth gel to judiciously work around each surface might reduced said friction.
Alternatively, there are lots of third-party hoods out there for the 70-200 range at reasonable prices. I got one for my 70-200 when I purchased it new and actually used that, so when I sold the lens recently the hood was as new and went on very smoothly.
