EOS Rebel T6 not working with Remote Switch RS-60E3

My camera is an EOS Rebel T6 1300D. I finally got the exact recommended remote switch for taking pictures without having to touch the camera, it is called Remote Switch RS-60E3. I had gotten another type before from Amazon and that one worked only once before it stopped working. My problem is it that despite getting the switch recommended on this site it still won't work no matter what I do. If any one has any ideas that could help I would be extremely grateful.

What shooting mode on the top dial are you using?  What drive mode setting is the camera set up to use?

Did you read the instructions included with the remote ?  And the instructions in the User Guide on how to set up the camera?

There is more to it than plugging it in.

Let’s troubleshoot.
Set the camera up without the remote and press the shutter button. Does it take a photo?

If so plug in the remote ( be sure it is plugged all the way in) and press the remote shutter button. That’s all you need to do. I just verified it with a T6s. No special settings required.

I tired everything you suggested and have read the camera manual & the paper that came with the remote several times and nothing works. I ordered it in November 2018 and though I have taken really good care of it, could there be something wrong with it?

Could be. I tried mine on two different cameras and it is just plug and play. No setup required.

Are you sure you are pressing it in all the way? One of my cameras took a little effort to be sure it was inserted alll the way.
