Hi everyone I am a beginner photographer and I have been asked to take my schools track teams media day photos, I currently use the EOS Rebel T7 camera. Should I get another lens to take these photos or should my lens be fine? Also where should I get backdrop and lighting kits/set ups from?

What lens do you have?
Just what kind of pictures do you want to take?

an EF-S 18-55mm lens

Your kit lens and photoshop should work well. If these are static photos you might want a tripod.

Your comment about sports photos makes me think this is for outdoor events, but your comment about lighting makes me think it might be indoor group shots. A little more information on that (including your current lens, as kvbarkley asks) will help us give you better advice.

this is an indoor event, and there will be many group shots, I have an EF-S 18-55 mm lens

Is something along this sample what you are after?

These types of sports photos aren't demanding of equipment since you likely aren't capturing fast action shots. So your current lens setup is probably fine.
B&H and Adorama have long been my sources for cameras and gear and they have plenty of lighting equipment (including used). But artificial lighting is a complex subject and quickly gets expensive so spend some time educating yourself on what you will need for this process.

I have taken sports photos of X country and baseball. You might take photos of the events and experiment with settings. It's a learning experience...especially fun if the grandkids are involved.
