DM-E1D shotgun mic Menu on Canon 6D not coming up.

I attached my new DM-E1D shotgun mic on my Canon EOS 6D Mark II camera.  I made sure everything was turned off before attaching it.  I then turned on the camera and turned on the video and pressed the Menu button on the mic and the mic's Menu does not come up.  Should it be coming up and, if not, why not?

In little tiny print it says that this mic only works with a camera with a multi-function shoe. Does the 6D II have that?

@kvbarkley is correct.

The 6D2 does not have a MFS and cannot supply power to this mic.

I found out after I took it to a nearby Canon store.  I don't remember reading it on the Canon site when I purchased it.  Because the print is so tiny, it would be easy for me to miss it.  I just returned it.  The nice person who answered my call as a courtesy is not charging me shipping fees.

Any Rode mic with a 3.5mm plug.  

Lots of choices.
