smart AUTO icons

Dear Canon:

When lighting for video, is it preferable for the smart AUTO icon to show "blue skies" or "vivid colors"? Versus "bright" (possibly increasing shutter speed, staccato looking) or "dark" (possibly decreasing shutter speed, blurry looking).

Thanks,
Phil

I own an R400; however, this smart AUTO is on many of your camcorders.

Thanks,

Phil

Hi Philwashere!

In the AUTO mode, the camcorder will automatically detect certain characteristics of the subject, background, lighting conditions, etc.  It will then adjust various settings (focus, exposure, color, image stabilization, image quality, among others), selecting the best set-tings for the scene you want to shoot.  Because of this, it is possible that any of the settings is prefereable, so long as it matches up well to what you are shooting.

Thanks Mike. If the AUTO icon is "blue", does that mean the shutter speed is correct for the frame rate? As opposed to the gray icon (bright) or dark blue icon (dark)? Thanks, Phil

Hello Philwashere,

If the icon is light blue, the Smart AUTO is set for Blue skies*.  Gray is for Bright*.  Dark backgrounds and you'd see a dark blue icon.
