ZR850 need help my Mac is not seeing it

I have a cannon zr850 with the old cassette.  I have a new Mac.  I can connect it to the Mac but the Mac is not seeing it.  I looked online for a new driver and am not seeing anything.  Can anyone help me?

FWIW, I've never ever seen a firewire to USB cable that works.

The consensus is that all USB->firewire are all snake oil - especially USB-A.

Note that in my article, I am talking about firewire->thunderbolt, a completely different beast.
