R50 camcorder not recognized by canon software

So I just purchased a refurbished r50. Seems to be working ok. When I plug it into my windows 10 pc it dings to recognize it then immediately disconnects. Once I switch the camcorder to play mode it connects again and I'm able to browse the folders but when I launch the canon software it says no camera detected. Any ideas? I searched for drivers but it says there are none for Windows 10.

Hi Ylomnstr,

The Windows operating system provides the drivers for your camcorder, so no additional drivers are required or available.

So we may better assist you, please reply with the following information:

  1. Have you installed the software from the Canon website (for still images and MP4 movies) and Pixela's Transfer Utility LE for AVCHD movies the Pixela website?
  2. When you power your camcorder with its Compact Power Adapter, then turn it on in the movie Playback mode:
    1. Does your computer respond (i.e. windows, beeps, etc)?
    2. What do you see on your camcorder's display?
