EDIT: Issue solved. I opened up the camera and noticed 2 things:
The open/closed switch was stuck
The screen orientation magnet fell out of place
After moving the switch for a little bit and putting the magnet back in the pocket, the camera functions normally.
Post:
I have a flipscreen problem with my camcorder (Legria HF R506). When the screen is open, it is completely black, as if it was off. When face it forward (facing with the lens), it turns back on, which seems like some sort of "screen open/closed" sensor malfunction. I have tried changing different settings such as "Auto power off" or "Power On Using LCD Panel". It didn't work, so I reset it back to factory settings.
Pictures for reference:
As you can see above, the LCD doesn't work when open, even though the camcorder is on.
And it does when it is flipped around.
If you know how to solve this issue, please share your thoughts.

It's a ten-year-old camera with bad contacts or cable connecting the display to the body. It happens. It needs servicing, if there's anyone out there who can/will do it. Likely not Canon.
