I purchased a new Canon bp808 battery and it also will not charge. If the problem is in the camcorder can I just buy a charger to charge the batteries. The LED flashes red slowly 3 times and then rapidly.

The rapid red flashing means the battery pack is not able to be charged. Make sure the camcorder is off and external power is connected before you install the battery pack to charge it. If the camcorder feels very warm, either from use or from higher external temperatures, let it sit powered off to cool down for a while before you try charging the battery.
If none of this helps, then the camcorder will need to be serviced. To start this process, you'll need to complete a Repair Request on our website.
