External mic help

Hiya guys I've purchased a canon legria hf r606 camcorder and I'm really struggling with wind noise on the audio,

My question is I know there is no mic socket but can I use the mini USB port instead and attach a GoPro style external mic?

According to the specs - http://www.canon-europe.com/for_home/product_finder/camcorders/high_definition_hd/legria_hf_r606/#p-... - under Terminal the USB port is Out only so it does not appear as though you could use the USB port to connect a microphone.  The only suggestion I have is to purchase an audio recorder and sync in a video editing program.
