Canon camcorder

I was given a Canon ZR 850 NTSC camcorder. I would like to see if it's possible to view videos from it on a portable DVD player using the memory card. I purchased a Sylvania portable DVD player with an SD card slot but when I try to view the video clip the display says "Video codec not supported". Can I change the format that the camcorder records in? If not, does anyone know of a player that would play the videos that the camcorder records on the SD card?

Thank you.

Hi kilpatrickj6!

Welcome to the Canon Forum.

Unlike the tape, the video recorded to the SD card is recorded in a Motion JPEG format with Mono sound.  If your DVD player does not support this format, it will not playback from the card.  The format the camcorder records to the card cannot be changed in the camcorder.
