C400 "CFexpress File name error" at clip 999. In-camera workaround without formatting?

Dear community,

I experienced a "CFexpress File name error" for the first time while shooting with my Canon EOS C400, and I wanted to know if anyone has run into this issue and found a workaround that doesn't involve reformatting the card on set.

How to reproduce the issue:

1. Reach clip/file index 999

2. Start & stop recording (next clip fails to generate)

I tried changing the Camera Index and Reel Number in Recording/Media Setup > Metadata and set Clip Numbering to Reset, but none of these changes had any effect.

Formatting the card obviously fixes it, but that is not a viable option during a client shoot. I don't have time to stop, back up, format, and reconfigure settings mid-take.

I used to have a similar issue with my C300 Mark II and was hoping it would be resolved by now (via automatic reel incrementation or similar), but it seems it hasn't.

Is there a way to fix or bypass this in-camera during a shoot without formatting?

Greetings, 

I looked at the manuals for the C400, R1, R5 mkII and my R5 C.  All have the 999 clip number limit.  

The only way I found to resolve is to format the card, delete clips or switch to a different card.
