Hi,
My canon XA20 loses focus at times whilst recording then refocuses, but I end up with a portion of my footage being blur.
Im recording in Auto mode.

More information is needed. There are several reasons why autofocus could fail like that.
Are you recording static content? Or our people, etc. moving in the frame? Is the scene of low contrast? Sometimes that causes autofocus to start hunting.

Thanks, I record weddings, so yes there is movement. Will turning the face detection off help?

Turning face detection off may help, I've always found it to be a bit fickle on the XA10 & 20. However if you are shooting in low light using auto focus is asking for trouble in my opinion. Turning the peaking on and running the camera in manual focus would probably be a better option.
