Cannot import from Canon ZR80 to iMovie.

A few years ago I spent a lot of time importing old tapes from my Canon ZR80 to iMovie using severals dongles to connect the video camera using the original cable to my Macbook Pro USB-C port. Now I am trying to finish up with the last few tapes, but I am not able to get the import function to work. The camera is listed as a source when I go to import my media, but clicking on "import" doesn't do anything. The tapes are fine as I can hit "play" on the camera and watch them just fine on the pop-out camera LCD. The only difference now is that I have a newer Mac 2021 M1 Pro and a newer OS. Could that be the issue? Any suggestions?

Hi Treviso1996.

Thanks for letting us know what Canon product you've got. The ZR80 camcorder is an older model which we have retired. While that means that Canon USA no longer offers direct support for it, your friends here in the Canon Community are welcome to offer suggestions!
You might want to check with Apple Support to see if other Mac 2021 M1 Pro users have experienced this issue.
While not related to your import issue, if you are looking to upgrade your older camcorder you can also speak with a Canon Upgrade Program specialist to help you find a modern replacement that would meet your current needs at a discount. You can reach them weekdays and Saturdays at 1-866-443-8002.

Hope this helps!
