my canon MF227 will not stay connected to my imac computer. Both are on the same network.

I can get the printer to work by resetting them to a new network but after a few minutes of inactivity the computer says it is not connected to the printer. I then have to switch them both on and off the wireless network to resume printing

just upgraded to Sierra but did not work on last OS either
