error, can't use scanner with in use by other application or user!!!!!!!!!

Ive seen this over time but the only response was to re start, as well some instructions for PC  Scanner isc Canoscan lide 210OS is mac osx , mavericks and  ysemite and el capitian (beta), same issues on all O/S 's Any please help
