I agree with a DSLR. Unless it is essential to have it small enough to put into a purse, etc., you will get the best results with a DSLR. Go to a local camera shop and hold several of the models and see which one feels right in your hand. Save some $...
It's the 70-200 2.8 vII I have bigger and I have smaller, but time and time again this is my go to lens for great shots. I shot all day with it at the San Diego zoo. I could not imagine a better option.
