PIXMA MX860 Error code 5B00 after cleaning ink absorber

How do I reset my MX860 after cleaning the ink absorber?I have cleaned the ink absorber pads and reinstalled them but am unable to reset the 5B00 error code. None of the suggestions on the web have been helpful. What am I missing?
