The fix described above by others worked perfectly for me. Buy some DeoxIT D5. Remove camera battery and sd card. Remove the front case of the camera using a Phillips head size-00 screwdriver, being super careful not to dislodge the electronic ribbon...
By way of an update: My s100, which recovered for a couple of weeks after the puff-in-the-ports trick, isn't working anymore. I have to puff into the thing every time to take a photo, which is not convenient. Obviously.Ian
Correct Tronnebonne: A couple of big puffs fogged up the dead camera, but after it de-fogged it was perfectly operational for a couple days. I tried it again this morning and it would not take photos. I gave it another puff and voila. Working again.
My S100 stopped working again. But after a quick puff, it's now operational again. I guess this is one of those "one weird tricks" the interwebs is always talking about
