can someone tell me what the error code 5100 means, as my printer wont print

My MX860 is making a lot of chatter/gears grinding noise before it prints.  It used to be quiet, now I can hear it 3 rooms away!! is there any way to look inside ??  (past the ink holder?)  Sounds like gears or something trying to grab?  IDK, thats w...
