PIXMA G6020 not recognizing ink cartridges, 1642 error message

I am not ready to put ink in the ink wells yet. May be moving soon. I wanted to just use the Cartridges that came with the printer. However, I am getting a 1642 error. Like it the printer isn't even looking at the cartridges. Can anyone help? #G6...
