EOS 7D Mark II won't work with Sigma 170-500 APO lens

Just bought a sigma 170-500 mm lens and upon trying it on my canon 7d mkii keeps coming up , please clean contacts on lens.I have the latest firmware on, was wondering if i have to go back on the software for it to work.Any help would be grateful.
