It had something to do with iOS 12.00.xx prior to iOS 12.3.1 on my iphone 8s+.. My old iphone 6s+ with IOS 11.xx.xx did not do that. All I did was update the iOS of 8s+. You may need to update your camera firmware and the Canon app.
thanks TimI did what you suggested and it did not help. it is not a big deal. I can always take the memory card out and transfer them with my tablet. It just a little inconveince. thanks,B
Thanks Bokehen. the recent iOS update was related to the patents involve adjusting the size and appearance of photographs. I'll let the Apple support know.
