Hello,
I bought a Canon VIXIA HF G70 camcorder recently. I need to film for extended hours at times, so I researched which battery model I could buy for spare batteries. I found that I could use the Canon BP-820 battery pack, but I could not find it available to buy anywhere.
So then I looked for an alternative battery that I could use and my research said that the Kastar BP828 battery could be used. So I bought four of them.
But now when I put the Kastar BP828 battery into my Canon VIXIA HF G70 camcorder, I get a message asking me if the battery has the Canon logo on it. I say "no" and then I get a message telling me that the battery might be a counterfit and that the camcorder will be shutting down.
So I go to the Canon website and search for the Canon BP-820 battery pack, and it says "Out Of Stock."
https://www.usa.canon.com/content/canon/en/search.html?q=battery+pack+bp-820&r=product
On the Canon Store on Amazon, it says "Currently unavailable. We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock."
[Commercial link removed per forum guidelines and replaced with screenshot to facilitate discussion.]
I need to do some video filming soon and need spare batteries for my Canon VIXIA HF G70 camcorder. What are my options?
Is there a way to be able to use the Kastar BP828 batteries that I bought?

Hi camcorder-12345,
I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with batteries. Through Canon the only batteries we make for the VIXIA HF G70 are the BP-820 and BP-828. They are currently out of stock on our website. You could try calling our sales team at 1-800-385-2155 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern time Monday through Friday for information on when they may be back in stock. You could also check with our authorized dealers to see if they have some in stock. If you would like to view a list of our authorized dealers that is available HERE.
If your shoot is indoors a different option would be to power the camera through a power outlet. You could do that using our PD-E2 Power Adapter. That adapter allows you to record longer than what the batteries would be able to shoot.
In regards to your non-Canon batteries, through Canon support we are limited on the trouble shooting we can offer on non-Canon equipment. We only have information on functionality and compatibility on products manufactured by Canon. Canon does not test non-Canon accessories so we are unable to confirm whether non-Canon devices are fully compatible. For trouble shooting the non-Canon accessory we would recommend contacting the manufacturer of the device.

Additionally I bought the BM Premium BP-820 Battery for Canon VIXIA replacement from Amazon back in 2017. I have the original and this replacement as the OEM battery is impossible to find.
I paid $25 for the battery and it holds a charge as good as it ever did maybe even better then OEM.
