This is a salon in Pumpkin Center California (on the edge of Bakersfield). This was shot with a Canon R8 and a variable ND filter I was playing with set to -9. In the late 1950s / early 1960s, Pumpkin Center was to be a masterplanned community, but it never really took off. It fell on hard times, became a center of crime, then immigrant Latino families moved in and breathed some life back into it. Now it is on the verge of being swallowed up by Bakersfield as brand new, big houses are "gentrifying" the area. As this happens, I hope the old buildings are not bulldozed for the generic, characterless ugliness that Bakersfield seems so intent on building.
