This image captures the Spectacled Parrotlet (Forpus conspicillatus) in its natural habitat in San Pablo de Borbur, Boyacá, Colombia. The bird's vivid green feathers, highlighted by subtle blue accents around its eyes, create a stunning contrast against the surrounding foliage.
To photograph this scene, I used a Canon R5 with an RF 800mm lens and a 1.4x extender, resulting in an effective focal length of 1120mm. The camera settings were 1/180 second, f/11, and ISO 1600. The ISO 1600 setting was necessary to handle the lower light conditions while maintaining a fast enough shutter speed to capture the bird's delicate features in sharp detail.
The challenge in this setting was to bring out the parrotlet's vibrant colors amidst the dense background. This composition, combined with the proper exposure, highlights the unique beauty of the bird and its habitat. Every element in the frame complements the bird's presence, giving a sense of the lush environment it calls home.
