The Royal Chapel of Granada. Tombs of the Catholic Monarchs of Spain, Reina Isabella de Castilla (1474-1504), and King Ferdinand II (1479-1516) de Aragon, whose marriage and joint rule marked the de facto unification of Spain. The title of "Catholic King and Queen (Catholic Monarchs), was officially bestowed on Ferdinand and Isabella by Pope Alexander VI in 1494, in recognition of their defense of the Catholic faith in their realms and the Reconquista from Muslim rule.
