Amalienborg is the official residence for the Danish royal family, located in Copenhagen. The palace complex has four identical Classical facades, effectively four palaces, with Rococo interiors, laid around an octagonal courtyard. At the center is a large equestrian statue of Frederick V. The day that we were there, the Danish flag was flying high indicating that King Frederik X and Queen Mary are at residence. The four palaces are: #1) Christian VII's Palace, originally known as Moltke's Palace; # 2) Christian VIIIs palace, originally known as Levetzaus's Palace; #3) Frederick VIII's Palace, originally known as Brockdorff'sl Palace; #4) Christian IX's Palace, originally known as Schack's Palace. Currently, only the palaces of Christian VII and Christian VIII are open to the public.
