A boy and his lantern

I was asked to take photos at an Asian street festival in DC. It was a bright, colorful and active scene, but this little fellow caught my eye. Canon 6d, Mark II, Tamron 35mm 1.4

Definitely a captivating moment. I like it very much. If it were mine, I'd be tempted to play with highlights and shadow in post. I would also be tempted flip it to monochrome where it would work well too. I do that a lot with a photograph of mine that I like SOOC to see what slight tinkering gives. This is an utterly simple image and that utter simplicity is what makes it immediate and captivating. Excellent capture of the moment. Your composition is on point. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Thank you for the thoughtful and informed critique. I did a B&W version; works well, even if a different feel. As fas as further editing, I wish I had some catchlight in the eyes, but I am very reticent to edit photos too much to achieve an effect. In this case, I darkened a fence that was behind him and drawing too much attention.
